Volunteer for FIRST Robotics
January 9, 2017
Hello,
The Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Utah is heavily involved every year in the Utah Regional FIRST Robotics Competition and we are currently looking for volunteers for the 2017 competition on March 8th (set up) through 11th (finals and awards) at the Maverik Center to do everything from checking in volunteers to robot inspecting, setting up the field, refereeing, judging and many other fun things. FIRST is an international organization that stands “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.” They run robotics competitions for all ages all around the world, but this particular competition is for high school-aged teams to compete head to head on a special playing field with robots they have designed, built and programmed. Teams come from all around the country to compete in Utah for a chance to continue on to a global championship in April.
Descriptions of all of the volunteer positions that are available to read here: http://www.utfrc.utah.edu/volunteer
You can register and select the top roles you are interested in here: https://my.firstinspires.org/FIRSTPortal/Login/VIMS_Login.aspx
In the registration form, click “apply for an event” and search the state of Utah for “FRC-FIRST Robotics Competition”
Add the roles you are interested in and the mark days you are available.
You will then be directed to a screening website (basically a background check) because you will be working with youth, so you will need to complete that as soon as possible.
You will be notified that you passed the screening within a few days and a volunteer coordinator will contact you closer to the event date as to your assigned position.
Feel free to invite friends and family to volunteer. Anyone 13 and older can volunteer and volunteers under 18 years old do not need to be screened.
Let me know if you have any questions.
