job opportunity
January 9, 2017
Through a grant I have from the National Institutes of Health, there is an opportunity to obtain funds to support an underrepresented minority who may be interested in a career in the health sciences. I am contacting you because the nature of the project demands some computer skills that are above what most biology students have been exposed to. I would work with the student/graduate to define the project and develop a mentoring plan designed to promoting the training and career opportunities for that individual. At a minimum the candidate should have an interested in working towards a career in biology or some aspect of the health sciences arena, and preferably have some experience working in R and scripting with perl or python.
In brief, the project would be to develop hypotheses regarding factors that affect gene expression, and to develop computer methods to test those hypotheses in large deep-sequencing data sets generated in my lab as well as others that are publicly available through the National Institutes of Health. I would be working closely with the individual to learn the biology and develop these approaches.
If you know of anyone that might be interested, please let me know, or feel free to pass on my contact information. Also, if more information would be helpful, please email or call.
All the best,
Mike
