Call for panelists
February 3, 2017
Dear College of Engineering Students, Faculty and Staff,
In response to the recent Presidential Executive Order affecting citizens of various countries, and in an effort to promote understanding, open communication and demonstrate support and solidarity with the Muslim members of our engineering community, members of the advising staff within the College are looking for volunteers for a panel of Muslim students, faculty and staff for a discussion on Thursday, February 9th from 3:30-4:30pm, to which you will all be invited. The purpose of the panel would be for Muslim individuals to share more about their beliefs and things they want others to know about their religion and/or culture, discuss common misconceptions or myths related to the religion of Islam that are perpetuated on our campus or in our country/in the media, learn more about the experience of Muslims on our campus, as well as hear suggestions for ways that non-Muslims can be more inclusive of Muslims within our community.
If you are interested in being on this panel and are available at that time, please email joy.velarde@utah.edu or katie.barnard@utah.edu by Friday, February 3rd. We would like to hear from a variety of different majors, countries of origin and genders. After consulting with the International Student and Scholars Services office and finalizing all of the details, we will send out an invitation for the event to the entire College by early next week.
Thank you in advance for your support.
