Seeking Developer for Snowflake Analysis and Display
Have you ever wondered what snowflakes look like up close? We\\re looking for a developer to help us achieve just that! Our revolutionary scientific instrument, the Multi-Angle Snowflake Camera (MASC), automatically photographs individual snowflakes in free-fall from three different angles while simultaneously measuring their fall-speed. In a Department of Energy project to the Prof. Tim Garrett in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, the MASC is being used to help better understand winter storms in the Arctic. The instrument and its images has received broad international coverage in TV documentaries and written media, including NBC, New Scientist and National Geographic. We want to broaden accessibility to MASC images with a GUI interface that integrates and analyzes data from the instrument using a combination of neural network and image analysis tools. The interface will be used for scientific analysis at the University of Utah as well as being destined for international release to scientists using the MASC in the United States and abroad. For more information or to apply, please contact Professor Tim Garrett (tim.garrett@utah.edu). When applying, please attach a pdf copy of your resume along with, if available, a link to a sample of your work. *Responsibilities*: ï‚· Implement and design on-the-fly image and data analysis tools for data display ï‚· Implement and design neural network algorithms for snowflake classification ï‚· Potentially create a SQL database for all acquired images and associated data *Requirements* ï‚· Experience developing UI ï‚· Experience with Python ï‚· Experience with an object-oriented language equivalent to: Java, Objective-C, or C++ ï‚· Strong interpersonal and communication skills ï‚· Motivated, dependable and flexible ï‚· Candidate must also exercise close attention to detail ï‚· Ability to provide a working product within a two month time frame *Desired skills / Extras* Experience developing web front- and back-ends: HTML, JavaScript,CSS, jQuery, PHP, SQL ï‚· Version control: SVN, Git, or CVS ï‚· Photoshop, Illustrator or equivalent |
