• Description:   This course is designed for non-CS major students who desire a practical course for gaining basic computer programming skills. The course will use the Python language to develop skills in problem-solving, debugging, acquiring real-world data, processing data, and interacting with and visualizing solutions. The course will connect writing small programs with other programs and libraries to leverage basic computer skills. Examples from a variety of fields will be used to illustrate the power and potential of computers and programming. Students should leave the course with the confidence and understanding to write useful, small-scale programs in their area of interest.

• Intended Audience:   Students outside the major who are interested in learning more about computing or who see the value of computers in their field are encouraged to take this course. Students from other engineering fields should get advice on whether the CS premajor courses (CS1410/2420) are a better match for their degree. Students in the physical sciences should be a good match for this course. Students in Film EAE are a target audience of this course. Students in business, communications, and humanities should consider this course as computing becomes a larger part of many areas of study.

  CS premajors should not take this course. Grades from this course will not apply to any CS major requirements.
