Welcome to reality.  This may be news to you, but it's old hat to us.
We've been wrestling with this for several years; people like
Matthias, for well over a decade.  TeachScheme! evolved partly as a
response to these kinds of students.  Which is in part why we find it
disappointing when the approach is dismissed without even trying it in
full measure ...
