Yes, it kight be some typo, since i cannot reproduce match of "".
instead i have:
on redHat
[tay@goliath /tmp]$ mzscheme
Welcome to MzScheme version 53 (using locale), Copyright (c) 1995-98 PLT (Matthew Flatt)
> (regexp-match (regexp "a*") "aaaaa")
("aaaaa")
> (exit)
and on solaris
