Flexlab: Combining the best of overlay and emulation environments
Flux Research Group, University of Utah School of Computing
Emulab Project
Summary
This is a major effort research and development effort, to:
- Provide a general framework that allows the network model used for path
emulation to be replaceable.
- Combine overlay and emulation testbeds (PlanetLab + Emulab): where the
whole is better than the sum of the parts.
- Develop, refine, and study a novel network modeling technique:
"Application-centric Internet Modeling."

Status
This system is in alpha test in the live Utah Emulab.
We are experimenting with three network models, and plan to add a fourth,
from the University of Washington's iplane project.
Collaboration Opportunities
If you have a network model you'd like to try, or you think we would,
please let us (testbed-ops@flux.utah.edu) know.
If you have an application you'd particularly like to try under it,
also let us know.
(However, no guarantees we'll have time to do either
of those before the system is in production.)
